Just
A Cappella has a repertoire which includes the ‘evergreen’ popular
songs of the 20th century, some doo-wop, gospel and some swing and jazz
style pieces and is willing to try any style that appeals to its
members. Just A Cappella is keen to organise, and take part in,
education workshop days with other musical groups and has a commitment
to raising money for local charities. OPEN EVENING As
part of a recruitment drive we are having an open evening on 8th June
from 8.00pm to 10.00pm at Leverstock Green Village Hall and afterwards,
if you would like to join us, at The Plough, Leverstock Green Road, for
a winding down drink.
We are particularly in
need of tenors and basses but sopranos and altos will be welcomed as
well! No need to be able to read music but an ability to hold a tune is
essential. If you haven't sung for many years, come and give it a go.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Remember, singing is good for your
health, makes you happy and when you sing with others it also gives
pleasure to others.
Jean
Digby, the Music Director, is a very experienced performer and educator
in the a cappella style. Her current quartet Sounds Familiar www.soundsfamiliar.org.uk
were twice UK champions, and she has also sung with two national
award-winning choruses, including one which was the category winner in
the Choir of the Year competition, which is featured on BBC2 every
other year.
Just A
Cappella is available for performances, both paid and charitable.
Promoters of events, concerts etc. can see its repertoire, and listen
to some sound samples, by clicking on Repertoire. More information can be supplied by e-mail by clicking here.
You can then be advised on how the group may best fit in with your
event. If Just A Cappella is too large a group for your venue they may
be able to recommend something smaller, like a quartet, some of which
can be found on Links.
Members
have a lot of fun working hard and enjoying singing together. If you
visited this website because you may be interested in singing with
them, click here
to enquire about the possibilities. It would be helpful to know what
previous singing experience you have (if any) and which voice part(s)
you can sing.
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings. See Find Us for details. Visitors and potential members are always welcome, but it would be wise to Contact Us to check that there is a rehearsal on the evening you’ve chosen. (Some of us visit a nearby pub afterwards)
In
September 2005 Just A Cappella had a very successful visit to the
Dordogne (Perigord) region of France, which involved both singing and
wine tasting! Three concerts were organised for them, including one in
a village church to raise money to restore its mediaeval frescoes.
Almost €1000 was raised in a very successful evening. Following on from
the success and enjoyment of that event, the group is now considering
biennial trips to the Continent. |
